There exist already several books about Lean but most of them are about implementing Lean transformations in production environments. There are some books about Lean in Service and Office environments but most of them are comparing the implementations to that of production environments which is not very useful to anyone without interests and experience in production. And there are also some books which are or too mystifying or missing some important details. 
I have decided to write this book for the above reasons and because I wanted to decrease the confusion about Lean in Office/Service/Business Administration environments. This book is for anyone who wants to understand, manage and/or wants to apply Lean transformations in Office/Service/Business Administration.

Furthermore, there is very few existing literature about implementing Lean according to a structured plan (project). This is because Lean is originating from the automotive industry, from a production environment, where the implementation of Lean is much more straightforward than in Service/Office environments. I will present you a Standardized Lean Implementation Plan (SLIP); a kind of template; which will help you to develop your structured Lean Implementation Plan according to a ‘project’ structure every time you need it.

The ISO 9000 groups of standards are enforcing a management system which is very similar to the Lean Management System. This is the reason why I have decided to treat both ISO 9001 and Lean in one book. Maybe the future will bring us an ISO standard to enforce more of the Lean principles or the ISO 9001 standard will get an extension. But this is still the future. Let us stay in the present and learn about Strategic Business Improvement based on Lean and ISO 9001 by reading further.

In Chapter 1 I explain how to apply the Lean principles in Office/Service/Business Administration and in Chapter 2 I show you how to prepare a Lean Implementation Plan (LIP) for your Lean transformation trajectory based on the presented Standardized Lean Implementation Plan (SLIP). In Chapter 3 I explain some remaining important subjects in more detail as Value Stream Mapping, PDSA, 5S, Root Cause Analyzes, Visual Management, Job Instructions (JI). There is also an introduction to Project Management methodologies in Chapter 4, including also a short summary of Prince2. And finally Chapter 5 contains an introduction to ISO 9001.
